MAC Mail Setup

Start MAC Mail, the icon can usually be found at the bottom of the screen


From the Mail menu, select "Preferences"


Click the ADD button at the bottom as shown below


In the Add Account window, enter your information as shown in the example below and then click Continue


In the Incoming Mail Server window:

Account Type: you use either POP3 or IMAP (as shown in the exapmle below).

  • POP3 is an older protocol used only for accessing your mail from one place
  • IMAP is for people who want to access thier mail from multiple places or devices (i.e. desktop and/or laptop and/or Smart Phone.

Description: Can be anything you want to help you remember what this email account is for

Incoming Mail Server: This must be set as to your mail server name you were given when you set up your account.

User Name: This it the name of your server mail box and is usually the firstpart of your email address (but not always).

Password: (self explainatory)

Click on Continue when your are done.


In the Outgoing Mail Security window, make sure:

"Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" in NOT checked

Authencation: This must be "Password" for your server.


In the Account Summary window just click on Create when you are ready to proceed.


You must make some final changes before you can use your account

In the Accounts window, make sure the account you just created in highlights and then open the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown (see next example).


In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown select Edit SMTP Server List... as shown below


In the bottom of the window, make sure Advanced is selected and the select Use custom port 587 as shown below

Also make sure Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is NOT checked.

When you click on OK you are ready to send and receive email from your new account.
